Chartres Cathedral interior

Great timing on our part, the Cathedral underwent a thorough cleaning a few years ago inside and out. As well, and very controversially, the interior walls were painted shades of white, yellow and beige—the idea being to make it look as it did in the 13th century. Some said this went beyond the scope of pure conservation into aesthetic modification, but others countered that it was historically accurate, and moreover cathedrals don’t need to be somber and grey.
