Chrysalides

The Aquarium ran (maybe still does run) a program with Costa Rican butterfly farmers, whereby they’re paid to plant native host plants and raise caterpillars and chrysalides, which are then shipped here to emerge safely. Farmers get paid, rainforest doesn’t get cut down, we get pretty bugs, it’s win-win-win!

These look like monarch chrysalides, incidentally, and we’re told they’re aaaaaalmost ready to emerge.
