Common Redpoll

Hey, here’s a lifer on this cold blustery Monday! They’re apparently rare in these parts, and at first I thought they were finches — sounding very alike and foraging in the same way. But the darker patterns on the head told me I was looking at something new.

This is an adult male, based on the slightly rosy chest. Females are a plainer beige with small brown stripes
