Statue of Louis XIV

Next up is the Salon of Venus, which features a full-size statue of Louis XIV dressed as a Roman-style conquering general. He’s holding a commander’s stick in the right hand, and on his shield is the face of Medusa, symbolising the power to strike fear in his enemies’ hearts. One of many, many pieces in the castle elevating the king with allusions to history and mythology.
