The Apollo Gallery

After the fire of 1661, King Louis XIV decided to replace the ruined parts of the Louvre in his image. He’d already decided on the sun as his brand, so this room would be themed on Apollo, the God of the Sun and the Arts. This is a little foretaste of Versailles’ extravagance —and in fact, Louis would rehire some of the same people who worked on this for Versailles.
