Mapleridge Flats
The day started out a bit grey and overcast, which isn’t great news when you go to a place that’s mostly tree-covered. There were no cute little shorebirds nearby, but a heron did give me some good action shots as it came in for a landing!

Things are looking up!

And we found an artsy assemblage of fallen leaves!

The swallows are long gone, and there didn’t seem to be any of the usual birbs around the gardens… but you can always count on some pollinators!

And creatures that eat pollinators.

Coquitlam River can always be counted on to serve peaceful glamour.

I think this is a Red-tailed Hawk.

Piper Spit
A pretty lady!

I always love taking pics of Mallards (it’s usually Mallards) splashing around

A Long-billed Dowitcher, striding with purpose. It looks like it’s mostly back to its monochromatic winter outfit.

The first coot of the season! Disappointingly it was by itself, robbing us of merry coot drama. But there will soon be many more!

A Mallard in flight! I love this pic, all the cool little curls of the wings and the tail.
