Maison Picassiette is the life’s work of one Raymond Isidore (1900–1964), an oddball obsessed with covering every square inch of his house and property with painting and mosaics made from bits of glass or pottery. Neighbours at first thought he was a crank or mentally ill and made fun of him, but they eventually came around. The city of Chartres acquired his property (and all his wild creations) in 1981 to safeguard his work—which was eventually recognised by the National government too.

A bit out of the way from the town centre (about 1/2 hour walk) but worth a gander if you’re in the neighbourhood, and in the mood for some unique folk art.
