Ice up close

One of the pilots went out in a little Zodiac thing to pick up a chunk of ice for us to inspect. They also hacked off small chunks of it for us to taste.

Since ice takes between 800 and 1000 years to make its way down the glacier to the lagoon, this would be the oldest thing we tasted. And, they said it would be the only thing we ate or drank for free in Iceland.

(It’s funny cos it’s true.)
