Two Northern Flickers

So I’m no fancy big-city flickerologist, but the flicker on the right has some weird colours. His underwings are a much paler orange than the other’s, and his throat stripes are… dark brown? Is that a juvenile thing I don’t know about, or was a parent of the yellow-shafted variety? So many questions!
