Women’s altar and “Mary in the Sun” painting

The painting dates to the 1490’s, and was transferred to this Baroque altar (called “the women’s altar” for some reason) about 200 years later. There are a whole bunch of details that are either done for the donor family (that’s them at Mary’s feet), or religious propaganda—for example, the sun imagery standing in opposition to the moon, which was seen as a Muslim symbol.
