Behind the altar

In this mosaic we see Jesus, sacred heart a-glowin’, flanked by the Virgin Mary and the Archangel Michael. There’s also a Pope (you can tell by the fancy hat), Joan of Arc (probably) and some other woman in white—I’m going to guess Sainte Anne—plus innumerable other people to the sides, on Earth and in Heaven. Underneath is written “Sacratissimo Cordi Jesu Gallia poenitens et devota et gratia” which means “To the very sacred Heart of Jesus, France (is) penitent, devoted, and grateful.”
