Northern flicker on feeder

Here’s an interesting visitor to that feeder near the Aquatic Centre: a handsome male northern flicker. Red-shafted subspecies, as you can see from the overall colour scheme, red throat stripes, and glimpses of the underwings (not really red, but a deep orange).

HOWEVER I got a look at the back of his head, and he’s got just a hint of a red crescent there, which says he’s got a bit of yellow-shafted heritage in him. I remember seeing him, or a guy just like him, last summer in this very neighbourhood. Hello again!
