Flycatching in Jericho

It’s a group project

It’s been almost two years since I first joined the Vancouver Queer Birders in this very park! My, how time flies!

I don’t usually consider it a good birding spot since even the trails aren’t very long, but it’s a whole different story when you’re birding with dozens of people. More eyes means more birds, more voices means friendly chatting, so even if you don’t see any birds, you can talk about birds!. Sometimes I want to meditate and listen quietly, and sometimes I’m good being social.

Also I don’t think I would have spotted this Western Flycatcher on my own.

A Western Flycatcher -- a little bird with drab olivy wings and a paler chest -- is sitting up in a mostly bare tree. It is facing away from me, but turning its head to one side. The sky in the background is solid blue
Way up high

Yes pose for me

What with the birbs being so elusive in the woody parts of the trail, I turned my attention down.

Two buttercups against a green background. One has a couple of tiny black insects covered in pollen

Although sometimes, the usual suspects show up to play.

An American Bushtit up in a tree, framed by some fresh green leaves. It is puffing up and looking in my direction

Finally, enjoy this running gosling

A gosling running in my general direction, stubby flightless wings extended. The grass is a mix of green and yellow
