Coot fight

Some very unexpected coot drama! Coots are generally solitary when they’re here (ie: outside the breeding season), and just leave each other to go about their coot business. But there was this one coot asshole who for whatever reason tried to chase away the two others hanging around Piper Spit.

Some staking out of territories could be a thing when moving to new grounds! Not as intense as in the spring when you’re fighting for nesting sites, though. Or, y’know, this guy could just be an asshole.
