Green Heron

I’d heard one was hanging around here, and was delighted to finally make its acquaintance.

At first I didn’t quite know what I was looking at. This critter is small, much smaller than a Great Blue. With its neck retracted, it’s not much bigger than a crow! The streaky chest and spotty wings also say this is a juvenile.
